Loot Rules

DKP and You
Mortal Wombats currently uses a DKP (De-Butak-Is-Awesome Kill Points) based loot distribution system. The benefits of DKP are well known and support the Wombat spirit of rewarding attendance and participation and supporting those that support our raids. We have tried to keep the rules as simple as possible, so please read them, and contact an officer if you have any questions.

Why DKP?
Attendance is and always has been the Achilles heel of Mortal Wombats raiding. We are an enormous guild, but we struggle at times to field a full team for new content. Thus, we moved to a system that supported those that supported raiding. You earn credit for participation in every raid, whether a boss is downed or not.

How do I earn DKP?
Your primary source of DKP will be from attendance. Simply participating in raids, successful or not, will generate DKP for you. Beyond that, points are earned for bosses killed and for being on time for raids. Here are the specifics.

  • The Lingani Memorial Speed Reading Version
    * 5 points per hour of the raid
    * 5 points for first kills
    * 5 SUPER AWESOME BONUS points for Monday and Friday raids

All pre-Wrath Content and current Wrath 10 mans – These raids are currently up for Guild PuGs, these runs are usually organised in the forums by hard working Wombats. Keep an eye out for these runs but the loot distribution systems are DKP-free, all loot is distributed by whatever system the raid leader determines.

All other raids – Raiders will earn the 3 attendance based points, if they are on-time and stay for the entire raid, but they will also earn an additional 1 point for every hour they are present in the raid regardless of its success or failure. Thus, a standard three hour raid should yield 6 DKP as a minimum. If bosses drop, this value will go up quickly, but people who are there for progression runs and countless wipes should be rewarded for their time and effort.

How do I spend DKP points?
We will be using an auction system that is tracked by the website. All DKP values will be displayed by class on our DKP page. Purchases will be automatically deducted from your total. You can go negative as far as -50 DKP, but will not be able to purchase anything further once you reach that level until you rebuild your stash. (Negative DKP is allowed at the outset of the system, when no one has DKP, and to allow new raiders to purchase gear that is otherwise unwanted, but that they cannot yet afford.)

It is important to concentrate during auctions, both for the Master Looter and the potential bidders. So during each auction we will encourage that both Vent and Raid chat are kept clean and clear.

In Practice
When an item drops, the Master Looter will run an auction when the opportunity presents itself, i.e. when people aren’t being punched in the face by mobs.

If no one is willing to bid the minimum amount, the item will be sharded/banked.

Assuming everyone can use a bonus to their Hawtness rating, the auction might look like this. The highest bid amount is announced at the end of each round, but the person who is bidding that amount is not announced.

The first round of bidding may look like this…
Marquie bids 26 (Command is: /w Chrion 26)
Zoltlock bids 27 (Command is: /w Chrion 27)
End of Round 1 – Zoltlock is the high bidder.

As you can see, bidding is done simply by whispering the Master Looter (announced both in raid and on the confirmation thread) the number you wish to bid.

At this point, a second round of bidding will begin to allow Marquie to outbid Z if he chooses.
Marquie bids 175 (Command is: /w Chrion 175)

He really wants to feel pretty it seems and Zolt allows the round to end without a counter bid. A third and final round begins and Buttugly (obviously in need of some hawtness) jumps in.

Buttugly bids 220 (Command is: /w Chrion 220)

This bid is rejected, in order to bid for an item, you must bid in all rounds, so if you want something, bid in round 1 and any following rounds as necessary. You must bid in all following rounds if you want to win the item, even if you were leading the auction at the end of round 1.

A ten second warning is announced, but Zolt chooses not to counter. Bidding closes and the item goes to Marquie. The points are automatically deducted from his page on the website at the end of the run.

Additional Notes

* Items will never be given away for less than their set minimum DKP value. This is to prevent DKP hoarding or people passing on upgrades in hopes of getting it for cheap later on. DKP is meant to be spent – go nuts.

* There are three rounds of bidding and each round will last 30 seconds. If you wander off, go afk, or just do not pay attention, the raid will not wait for you. You must keep an eye on the chat panel for auctions. The Loot master will announce the beginning of auctions over Vent, but it is on you to pay attention, because if you miss it, it is gone

* The first drop of any BoP enchant (Mongoose, Executioner, etc.) or crafting item will default to an officer if one is present with the skill. Subsequent drops will be purchasable by anyone via DKP. This is done to ensure that at least one copy of the chant/epic pattern stays within the guild and is available to all who need it.

FAQ

Mains vs Alt’s

1. Is the DKP system Player based or Toon based?
Toon based. Players are to select a main toon and this is the only toon they will raid 25 man content with the wombats on.

How this works in practice.
We do not raid with players alts.

2. How often can a player change their main?
Many people get tired of playing the same class and so like to change their mains.. Zolt has done it twice now.. Zoltar to Zoltman to Zoltlock. But we do not want people changing their main on every raid because it’s a nightmare for the loot manager and it makes a mockery of the whole main concept. Therefore players will be able to change their mains one every 6 months.

3. If I change from Player (main) to another main what happens to my DKP?
Your DKP is subtracted from your current main and given to your new main. If you currently are in negative DKP then your new main goes into the negative for the same amount.

4. How does this system balance out the casual raider and the hardcore raiders ability to get loot?
Honestly, a DKP system is less kind to the casual raider and has a positive bias towards the hardcore raider. We will not attempt to disguise this as we feel it is necessary for the forward progression of the guild to reward those with high attendance. In order to help new Raiders and more casual raiders accrue DKP points, we have elected to let players bid into negative DKP. Do not fear if you are a casual raider, often auctions may result in ‘low-balling’ so you’re still in with a chance. Remember to always bid big.

5. You get the big points by going to new content but I never get picked. Is this a conspiracy?
While it is true that the progression raids earn DKP at a faster rate when successful, they are also likely to be spending DKP at a faster rate than casual raiders. In theory, this will all balance out (we hope.) If you are not being picked for raids you would really like to be a part of, speak with your class leader or any officer about it. Chances are that you just don’t have the gear yet for the highest content we are working on. Most of these bosses have enrage timers and mountains of HPs. If the raid as a whole cannot hit a certain level of sustained DPS (or healing,) it will fail. Unfortunately, no matter how nice a guy (or gal) you are, if you can’t bring enough pain (or lovin’ for you healy types), you can’t go to the raid. Speak with a class leader if you’re unsure if you make the cut. Skill and knowledge are important, but if you’re only doing 1800 DPS and wearing unenchanted blues, you'll likely not be on the front line.

Final Words
It is very likely that we will need to tweak and balance the system from time to time. Please be patient with us and understand that things are going to go wrong on occasion. There is no perfect loot system, so everyone needs to be understanding when things do not go their way and patient with us as we work out the kinks. Thanks ‘bats.
